EV Charger Maintenance and Servicing

Home EV chargers are designed to be low maintenance and do not require regular servicing in the way some mechanical systems do. Once installed correctly, most chargers operate reliably for years with minimal attention.

Routine maintenance mainly involves visual checks. It is a good idea to occasionally inspect the charging cable and connector for signs of wear, damage, or debris. If the cable insulation is damaged or the connector looks worn, charging should be paused and the issue checked.

Keeping the charger clean also helps. Outdoor chargers can collect dirt over time, but a simple wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth is usually sufficient. Harsh chemicals or pressure washing should be avoided, as they can damage seals and surfaces.

There are no moving parts inside a home EV charger that require servicing. Software updates are handled separately through firmware updates, which are usually installed automatically via the charger’s app when connected to the internet.

If a charger begins to behave unusually, such as frequently stopping charging, displaying repeated error messages, or disconnecting from the app, this may indicate the need for inspection or support rather than routine maintenance.

In normal use, most owners never need to arrange servicing for their EV charger. Basic care and attention are usually enough to keep the system operating safely and reliably.
