How Long Does EV Charger Installation Take?

Most home EV charger installations are completed in a single visit, usually within a few hours.

In most cases, a home EV charger installation takes between two and four hours. This covers the full process, from initial safety checks to testing the charger once installation is complete.

The exact time depends on a few practical factors. These include the distance between the fuse board and the charger location, how cabling needs to be routed, and whether any minor electrical adjustments are required. Straightforward installations, such as a charger mounted beside a driveway with easy access to the fuse board, are often completed quickly.

More complex installations can take longer. This may include homes with longer cable runs, garages that require additional routing, or properties with limited access. If any electrical upgrades are needed, these are usually identified in advance and may extend the installation time.

Installers also allow time to test the charger, confirm it is operating correctly, and explain basic usage. This ensures the charger is safe, compliant, and ready for everyday use before the installer leaves.

In most situations, installation is completed in one visit and does not require ongoing work afterward.
