Solar Panels Not Generating
If your solar panels appear not to be generating, the cause is often temporary or related to system status rather than a fault.
If your solar panels are not generating electricity, there are a few common reasons, and most do not indicate a serious problem.
First, check whether it is daylight and whether conditions allow for generation. Very low light levels, such as at dawn, dusk, or during heavy cloud cover, can result in minimal or zero visible output. Seasonal variation also means generation is much lower in winter than in summer.
Next, check the inverter status. The inverter is the heart of the solar system, and if it is switched off, in standby, or showing a warning state, generation will stop. Many inverters pause generation automatically during grid issues or power cuts and then restart when conditions return to normal.
Connectivity issues can also affect what you see. If the monitoring app is not updating, it may appear that the system is not generating even when it is. Checking the inverter display directly can help confirm whether power is being produced.
In some cases, safety systems may temporarily shut down generation. This can happen after electrical work, maintenance, or grid disturbances. These shutdowns are designed to protect the system and usually reset automatically.
If panels are not generating during clear daylight hours and the inverter shows an error or warning, the system may need inspection. At that point, it is best to pause and contact support rather than attempting to reset anything manually.
Most “not generating” situations are resolved by confirming system status, checking connectivity, or allowing the system time to restart after temporary interruptions.
